                Florida’s 2011 Hurricane Season is Finally at an End – No Major Hits This Year!

Today, November 30th, is officially the "last day" of the 2011 Hurricane Season. Though possible, it is very unlikely that a hurricane will now cause us any harm since the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexicao are  cooling off after the summer heat. Hurricanes need very warm waters in order to get started.

We were fortunate again this year and had no major storms come our way. That was good news for sure. Funny though how most of our insurance rates did not drop and the insurance companies continue to cry poverty.
Speaking of insurance, I always recommend that once the official storm season is over here in the Sunshine State, it might be a good time to review your insurance coverage and find out what other insurance companies are charging for the same coverage you currently have. Now that the 2012 hurricane season is many months off, and the risk of damage is less, it might be possible to find new companies writing policies with better rates. In any case, it costs you nothing to shop around and you might save a few hundred bucks and get better coverage. What do you have to lose by asking?
Again, we are all glad to see the end of this year's hurricane season. Let's hope we have many more years with as little local action as we saw in 2011. No one would complain about that. Least of all, homeowners and real estate agents!

As they usually do each year, the residents of Colony Hill Community in Zephyrhills, Florida will be offering bi-weekly Pancake Breakfasts to people who live in the area or who are wintering here. Colony Hills is located on Lanier Road, just south of the State Road 54 Intersection. It is very easy to find and just a few minutes west of the city center.

The first they told me about will be on this Saturday, November 12, 2011 and then run more-or-less every other weekend, with breaks for Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.
Their offerings will be: pancakes, French toast, sausage, scrambled eggs, juice and coffee.
Donation of $3.00 is requested.
Time: 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM
Dates:    November 12
            November 26
            December 10
            January 7
            January 21
            February 11
            February 25
            March 10   
            March 24
            April 7
Those are the dates the subdivision office gave me. So, to the best of my ability, they are correct.

            If you have been watching the news over this past weekend, many inches of snow have fallen along the northeast coast of the United States. Our kids have not yet gone “trick or treating” and yet there is snow on the ground. I remember hearing about “frost on the pumpkins”, but this is ridiculous. Here is a picture that one of my FaceBook friends, Bill Quackenbush, took of his corner of New York State. Beautiful, to be sure. But cold and slippery.
Many of you will like the snow and crisp weather for a month or so. But then, those that can, will be thinking about spending the worst of the winter season in a somewhat warmer clime. Perhaps like Florida? Here we seldom see snow and even when it gets chilly, that does not last long. Then the sun comes out and summer is here again. No icy sidewalks to slip on, no snow to shovel, no scraping of windshields, no high heating  bills.  Play golf and tennis all year if you want to. Take a stroll in shorts and a tee-shirt. Not a bad life, don’t you agree?
